Penguin Media Consultants earns HUB certification as woman-owned business
DENTON – The Texas Building and Procurement Commission through its Certification and Compliance Program this month awarded Penguin Media Consultants certification as a Historically Underutilized Business.
The Texas Building and Procurement Commission conducts the State of Texas Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) Program for minority and women-owned businesses. The goal of the HUB Program is to ensure all HUBs, as described in the Texas Government Code, are eligible for HUB certification with the state, and list them in the HUB directory to ensure they have maximum opportunities to participate in the state's procurement in the awarding of contracts and subcontracts.
The program encourages and promotes the utilization of Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUBs) by all state agencies and reports their use to the state legislature.
“Certification as a woman-owned business will maximize our position as well as provide us with additional leverage to build successful business relationships,” said Tonie Auer, president of Penguin Media Consultants. Penguin Media Consultants (www.PenguinMediaConsultants.com) is a public relations and freelance writing company that specializes in a broad variety of media consulting ranging from training individuals and organizations in how to relate to the media to helping businesses and non-profits promote themselves with newsletters and news coverage.
The company’s clients – past and present – include a wide variety of businesses from non-profits like the Women’s Business Center to Coyote Ugly Saloon – Dallas to Goodman Land Developers. The company was founded in December 2001. “With this certification, and the potential bidding advantages it offers, we have access to a wider marketing audience and an opportunity to impress a greater number of organizations with our unique combination of premium-level public relations consulting services, writing and below-market fees,” Auer said.
“The Women's Business Center is committed to not only use MWBE (Minority/Women Business Enterprise) certified firms but to also encourage other corporations to do the same. Each month we hold a class on how to get certified and on our website, www.fwwbc.org, we have a listing of all the certification agencies, their requirements and downloadable applications. We are always glad to see one of our own suppliers, like Tonie, gain this certification,” said Catherine Simpson, executive director of the Women's Business Center in Fort Worth.
